We run and host a vibrant programme of events in both the shop and our multi-purpose Community Space.
Our own events include book talks, launches and signings, as well as those showcasing local makers, sharers and our partners.
Our affordable Community Space is available to hire seven days a week, daytime and evenings. Community groups, societies, local businesses and individuals are welcome to hire the spaces for a range of purposes.
October Books have wonderful partnerships with local Southampton schools and some beyond the city boundary.

Exciting news! "Greener" by Gráinne Murphy has been chosen as the Indie Book of the Month by the Bookseller Association, a panel made up of independent booksellers like ourselves.
For an interesting night out, Portswood High Street always delivers. On the evening of Thursday 9th May, amidst the usual fried chicken, hotpot and craft beer, and alongside some mild fisticuffs (not ours) and a Rolls Royce (not ours), October Books hosted a relaxed soirée to launch the shop’s new look.
We were delighted to have Lynne Thmpson join us and she did not disappoint, an expert of her craft she was a joy to listen to.
Reducing stress, lowering levels of anxiety and generally keeping relaxed and calm can be challenge. This week is Mental Health Awareness week, 13th - 19th May, and we thought it would be a great chance to highlight all the benefits reading can have around wellbeing.
Shop relaunch, it’s almost here! The team have been busy over the weekend and we are really looking forward to showing you what we have been up to here in the shop.
May is National Share a Story Month, celebrating the power and magic of storytelling. Organised by the National Federation of Children’s Book Groups it is a wonderful opportunity for families to share stories and books, and to read and write together too.
