We have a new series of ‘ We can make… ‘ workshops starting from Saturday 26th October!
You may have noticed that we have been running a series of ‘We can learn to…’ workshops this year. This is in response to listening customers and those attending events. The purposes are to learn new skills from people in our community, have new experiences and meet with others. The workshops are also in a response to us living in times when so much is made for us and is mass produced. We do n’t really need to make anything, perhaps a cake or two sometimes.
Due to the spiralling costs of our energy, we are needing to increase our room hire costs from around 10% from 1st May 2024
We are delighted that plans are being made for a replacement floor of the Community Space is to be fitted by mid January. We've received a generous offer from amongst the membership to underwrite the costs, but all contributions to share the expense are very welcome.
To donation please go to the fundraising page set up by our friends at Veg Out.
Meeting Place in Portswood, is an intergenerational afternoon of activities with a cream tea, was featured in the Daily Echo this month. It is run by students from Saint Mary’s Church in partnership with Communicare at October Books during term time on Wednesday 2.30pm to 4.30pm. We have been able to provide the Community Space for free due to funding we have received.
We were delighted to be the host venue of a Writers In Conversation event this month, organised by the Creative Writing Department at the University of Southampton. Ruby Cowling was invited to talk about her book This Paradise, a collection of short stories that has been viewed as a cult classic
