We are at Southampton’s Big Green Event - do come and see us on the 30th July
The October Books team are out and about on Saturday July 30th as we have a stall at Southampton’s Big Green Event. We’ll be there between 11am and 3.30 inside the O2 Guidlhall along with many other local organisations who are campaigning for and creating a more sustainable Southampton. We’ll have books on living green, vegan cookery and new economics as well as information on our Books for Wellbeing Scheme and our Community Share Offer. The Share Offer is our main focus in terms of being more sustainable over the coming months and years, as we believe that returning financial power to local communities is vital in our transition to a greener, lower carbon society. So come and chat to us in the shop or on the day to find out more.
As well as our Share Offer we are also really excited to be involved in The Southampton Climate Action Network (SoCAN) and Sustainability Directory which will be launched at the Big Green Event. Our very own Clare Diaper has helped to set up the network and directory, which happened as a consequence of October Books hosting a conversation about local community action in response to COP26. The Directory is currently being updated and the organisers are inviting everyone to add even more great enterprises, groups and organisations to it. Stop by and see them at the Big Green Event and help make the Directory even bigger and better. There’ll be a big map to help you add your ideas!
Clare says: “With the recent extreme weather conditions focusing our attention on the climate crisis, we all need to take what action we can to reduce our carbon emissions. The Southampton Sustainability Directory can provide everyone with a selection of simple steps to take. Together we SoCAN!” We hope to have a demo of the directory at our Celebration event on Saturday 10th September when you can come and add to the directory too.
We are open:
Monday - Saturday
10am - 5.30 pm
We are back open six days a week, with the whole store open for browsing. We will still of course be taking customer orders and you will still be able to buy food and cleaning products online through our online store.
We are able to be open 6 days a week again because of your consideration and care whilst in the shop. Though things are opening up, covid cases are still high and a lot of our staff have only received one jab. So we are asking customers to continue to leave that extra space, sanitise their hands and pull on their mask. We really appreciate it.
