A last post… for now
"Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us." ~Maya Angelou in Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now
I know I am taking a little more than a day away but the thoughts in Maya Angelou’s quote resonated with me and my reasons for taking some time away from October Books. The intentional and conscious decision to stop and separate the past from the future feels really important. I know I have got wrapped up in too much busy-ness over the past few years. A feeling that there is always always more to do, that I haven’t done things as well as I could, that the weekends are for catching up on all the work I haven’t done in the week!
So, it does feel really good to say ‘Stop!’ and allow myself the time and space to tune back into what is really important for me, right now, in this time. I also know I need to let go of managing the rest of the team to allow them to grow into their roles and to flourish. They are an incredible group of people and I am so grateful that they are here to support me in stepping back.
Letting go of things has been a theme in a lot of what I do. Letting go of my own agenda and listening to our community six years ago led to the buying of the bank. It sounds like an easy thing to do but it does take some courage and hope to be comfortable in the space of not knowing… I am excited and really looking forward to whatever happens next!
See you all in July
