Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Riba Rocks!

“The Eco Valley is a rural finca comprising 15 hectares of olive, almond and fig trees set in a private valley environment. It is completely off-grid. There is no mains electricity and no mains water supply. Solar power is harnessed and stored throughout the year and the occasional rainwater is collected from every roof structure for washing and from the hills into a cisterna for watering the fruit trees.

The Eco Valley was an abandoned olive farm in 2009 and after 5 years of heavily pruning the trees and ploughing the land we harvested our first olives to produce the Valley’s very own liquid gold, organic olive oil. We harvest the trees annually every November to produce fresh olive oil, although the harvest is greater biannually. Olives are picked by hand without any mechanical means to protect the trees, the farm is completely organic and relies on the ancient terrace construction for natural irrigation.

With over 200 olive trees, which are now lightly pruned each winter, we have an abundance of fuel for heating in wood burning stoves. The ash bi-product is then stored for use on our wonderful waterless compost toilets. The ash speeds up the composting process as well as completely neutralising any odours. Outdoor solar showers built by volunteers offer an amazing view. “
