New Art exhibition - Modigliani by Giaco
This Month we welcome a new art exhibition to our community space!
Local Artist Giaco Brings his collection of work that has been created in homage to the Italian surrealist artist Modigliani. Drawing on his own Italian roots, Giaco’s portraits represent the life of Modigliani in a series of paintings, drawing inspiration from Modigliani’s style and subject Matter.
A few words from the Artist
I have always been fascinated by the artist Amadeo Modigliani.
He was born in Livorno Italy in 1884 and his short life was beyond fascinating. He started painting at very young age and ended up in Paris shortly after 1900.There he met and worked with many of the great artists of the time...Picasso, Soutine, Van Dongen to name a few. Modigliani started in Paris as a sculptor then moved on to paintings. The long necks and faces which are a feature of his work to inspiration from African Art
Modigliani had many relationships until he met his Great Love, Jeanne Hebeterne who he eventually married, having a daughter Jeanne Modigliani.
His first exhibition in Paris was shut down by the police because there were so many nudes in his exhibition. We have respectfully covered some of these painting in this exhibition so you can choose to take a peek …or not. Like so many artists he sold few of his works in his life time. If you want to buy a Modigliani it could cost you a 100 million or so!
A tragic end to his life as after years of alcohol, smoking and drugs he died at the young age of 35. After his death his wife Jeanne died by suicide, jumping out of a window while pregnant with their second child. They were buried together but Jeanne’s family eventually moved her to a separate grave, a sad end to the family of what I consider to be one of the world’s greatest artists, Amedeo Modigliani.
There is so much more to say about this great artist but I will leave it there. As for me I have covered so many subjects in painting from the Old Masters... Abstract...the Impressionists and so many more using every and any medium sometimes digging my colours out of the ground...art is an eternal process of learning it never ends.....
