As part of Independent Bookshop Week, join translators Megan Berkobien and María Cristina Hall in conversation via ZOOM

Megan Berkobien and María Cristina Hall will be discussing Montserrat Roig’s first novel, Goodbye, Ramona. A powerhouse story told through the point of view of three generations of women from the same family. Opening with scenes of a pregnant woman looking for her husband after a bombing, Goodbye, Ramona explores the role of family, women’s relationships with men, the influence the weight of history and events out of their control have on them, and the silence in which they live their lives. Goodbye, Ramona is an historical and social mosaic seen through the lives and experiences of female characters.

Megan Berkobien is an educator, organiser and translator from Catalan and Spanish. She founded the Emerging Translators Collective at the University of Michigan where she gained a PhD in Comparative Literature on (e)co-translation. She has worked for Asymptote and Words Without Borders and has been published in BODY, Palabras Errantes and Catch & Release. In 2014, she was chosen as an ALTA fellow at the Annual Conference.

María Cristina Hall is a Mexican-American editor, poet, immigrations activist and translator between English, Spanish and Catalan. She is a doctoral student in Political and Social Sciences at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Her work can be found in Words Without Borders, Leveler and Mexico City Lit.
