Join us in the shop to meet author Hillard Morley for an introduction to the world of her first novel, its characters and ideas.
An opportunity to listen to extracts read by the author, to discuss creativity and the writing process in an interactive environment, to ask questions and to buy a signed copy of the first edition.
Areas of focus – what sparked ideas for the novel (surveillance culture; lockdowns; an anxious world), imagining the town of Combfoot Chase (small town life; people, insects and robots), creating the characters and the importance of names, the redemptive possibilities of art.
Having studied Literature at Durham University, Hillard Morley taught Drama and English for many years. In 2016 she made the decision to turn to writing full time, since which time her work has been published in literary journals worldwide. In 2020 she was shortlisted for the Independent Arts ‘Jot’ Award and in 2018 she won the OWT Short Fiction Prize.
