January 27th marks Holocaust Memorial Day. At october Books, we recognise the importance of memorialising the legacies of those who suffered. With over 35 million copies sold, Anne Frank’s diary is perhaps the best know pieces of Holocaust literature. The clarity, empathy, and deep sense of hope preserved in Frank’s diary are a lesson for all of those who suffer. More importantly however, The Diary of a Young Girl remains the most accessible way of understanding the horrors of the Holocaust through Frank’s emphasis on the strength of human resilience, and the importance of resistance.

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

Paperback £8.99

This remarkable eyewitness account describes the horror of the Nazi occupation through the eyes of a teenage girl who was there: Anne Frank. It tells how Anne and her Jewish family dodged the Nazis for two years by hiding in a tiny secret room in Amsterdam. Anne was destined not to survive the war. Her family were betrayed to Nazi soldiers, and she later died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. But until her capture, she wrote regularly in this diary, which remains one of the most important books of the 20th century. Written in that hidden attic, Anne’s diary is a remarkable story of hope and courage, and of the life one girl lived at the epicentre of world history.

We are open:

Monday - Saturday

10am - 5.30 pm

We are back open six days a week, with the whole store open for browsing. We will still of course be taking customer orders and you will still be able to buy food and cleaning products online through our online store.

We are able to be open 6 days a week again because of your consideration and care whilst in the shop. Though things are opening up, covid cases are still high and a lot of our staff have only received one jab. So we are asking customers to continue to leave that extra space, sanitise their hands and pull on their mask. We really appreciate it.
