In store now! Septology by Jon Fosse

Fosse, one of Europe’s most significant authors of the last century, here presents his completed Septology, which began with The Other Name which was published in 2019. Interrogating the relationship between the self and the wider world, Septology is a work obsessed with authenticity and truth, and how these concepts interact with the project of writing fiction.

Like Knausgaard’s My Struggle by way of Samuel Beckett, Fosse has confirmed his place in the literary canon with this remarkable, once in a lifetime achievement.

Septology by Jon Fosse

Paperback £16.99

What makes us who we are? And why do we lead one life and not another? Asle, an ageing painter and widower who lives alone on the southwest coast of Norway, is reminiscing about his life. His only friends are his neighbour, Asleik, a traditional fisherman-farmer, and Beyer, a gallerist who lives in the city. There, in Bjorgvin, lives another Asle, also a painter but lonely and consumed by alcohol. Asle and Asle are doppelgangers - two versions of the same person, two versions of the same life, both grappling with existential questions about death, love, light and shadow, faith and hopelessness. Jon Fosse's Septology, collected in English here for the first time, is a transcendent exploration of the human condition, and a radically other reading experience - incantatory, hypnotic, and utterly unique

We are open:

Monday - Saturday

10am - 5.30 pm

We are back open six days a week, with the whole store open for browsing. We will still of course be taking customer orders and you will still be able to buy food and cleaning products online through our online store.

We are able to be open 6 days a week again because of your consideration and care whilst in the shop. Though things are opening up, covid cases are still high and a lot of our staff have only received one jab. So we are asking customers to continue to leave that extra space, sanitise their hands and pull on their mask. We really appreciate it.
