As of September 2020, we are looking to expand the team here at October Books. We’d like to welcome in a new person who can bring their talents, experience and enthusiasm to help this much-loved Southampton business continue to grow and flourish.

We are looking for a long-term commitment from someone with experience in business or financial management who is passionate about the future of October Books and its place in the wider community.

Bookshop Co-ordinator wanted

Between 25 & 35 hrs per week (this could be split between two part time roles).

£9.30/hour with a 3 month probation period.

Ever fancied running a bookshop? The October Books team is looking for a new staff member to join them in helping to run this independent, radical, community bookshop and community space. We are looking for someone with experience in business and community, as well as a passion and interest in books and literature. We are looking for a long-term commitment from someone who will help this much-loved Southampton business continue to grow and flourish.

An essential part of this role is to work as part of the existing team, sharing the responsibility for running the business as a whole and managing the shop floor. The role is perfect for someone who is looking to be a part of the future of October Books and someone who is looking for significant responsibility in an adaptive and flexible co-operative environment. There will be a three month probationary period after which you will be expected to join the committee as a member. We are looking for someone who has an understanding of accounting and book-keeping and can take a lead role in financial management. A sound knowledge of computing and information technology hardware and software,  is also desirable.

Experience with or a passion for books less ordinary, radical and progressive as well as good knowledge of the classics and popular titles is also required. The role will require you to co-ordinate book purchasing, with input from other team members about their specialist subject areas.  A link or connection to academic book sales is also desirable as we would like to improve our offering to Southampton and Solent University students. 

Formal interviews will be held w/c 24th August. The rules of social distancing will be maintained at all times.
