Name: Jacqueline (she/her)
Role: Operations Team Lead
Your OB Story: I have been a regular customer of October Books since I moved to Southampton in 2013.
My background is in libraries and for the past six years I have worked at the University of Winchester, part-time, as Open Access Officer, facilitating access to research. I still work there, but in need of a new challenge (and to help make ends meet) I started considering other kinds of work. Something in retail, I thought, and made a shortlist of shops I’d love to work at. In an amazing coincidence, October Books was hiring at that very moment, and I’m so pleased to have joined the team! I’ve only just started and I’m still getting to grips with my role, which seems to be about keeping things running – the building, the systems, the team.
Passionate About: Connecting people and things; the circular economy; yoga; crochet; sustainable travel options.
Recommends: I usually consider myself a fiction reader but thinking about it, a fair few of the books I’ve bought at October Books are non-fiction – memoirs and essays and so on. So I guess I would recommend browsing outside of your comfort zone! October Books is good for that. The event space is very nice as well!
